Maybe turn up at the local Park Run and Kids Park Run to promote - should get a pretty high take-up from them, but make sure your event is not going to clash with their existing slots.

...eBay is last resort due to 10% commission.

Watch out for GBP1 maximum fee offers or similar which come round all the time and then list.

Some high-end tools will last you a long time and you will never regret getting them.

A 2nd-hand drum kit or electronic drum kit is a good if you have some space.

A dry lube or wax would be best, plus some extended cable ends like the Jagwire ones do an amazing job of stopping any dirt or water getting anywhere near the cable inners, especially if you add a few ...

Now up to about 3000 miles total of semi-reasonable paved road in Mongolia, a country twice the size of France. Some of it is even rideable between May and September, but don't try it in the city.
