nearly spat my tea out! Smile

Ejc, serious question, do you believe in these so called "elites" who supposedly conivingly rule our world from the shadows? Who pull the strings of our politicians? Etc.

Or do you simply mean those currently in power?

I ask as it is an unusual phrase for you to use.

Fwiw btw I simply think that politicians are pulled all over the place by lobbyists, ceos, other nations politicians seeking stamps of approval etc. And ideology, fear of saying the wrong thing etc.

i am seeing quite a bit of trumpophobia on FB at present, particularly from the vacant left, he is after all an easy target......but i am yet to see any regressive leftie make any sensible evaluation on why the democrats lost the now disillusioned left vote, or any thoughts on how they will get it back in 4 years time...

blimey...i did spit my tea out...a fan of the EU now worried about ideology and fear of saying the wrong thing...my, my....

as for these elites (your word, not mine, i used ruling classes i believe), no they don't pull the strings from the shadows, they are so brazen these days that they do it openly for all to see and the populace is either too comfy, too scared or too ignorant to complain (or a combination of all three)...

...but now you've been on the road to damascus, perhaps the blinkers are coming off....

"There's only so many seats at the table Gunny. Now are you on the inside or the out?" Standing state senator Charles Meacham.

Why Shooter didn't get Oscar nominations escapes me.

i consider myself a centralist, not a regressive leftie, as I believe in the market but with a social conscience.

The democrats lost as they had disconnected from the energy of the people. In other words they had lost the connection to/in people's hearts. And the fact that many didn't like paying more for healthcare.

To win in four years time will be tough because the republicans will be enjoying the Trump boom from his policies domestically. Eight years will be easier as more will be disillusioned. But the democrats best weapon in four years time is.....drum roll....Michelle Obama. That is one lady who can touch hearts.

the democrats lost because even the least intelligent american (and boy are they ever low down on any educational scale these days) could see the harm in closing down debate...

Not sure why touching hearts is a recommended skill for a US president...personally I am for honesty and there has, sadly, been little of that of late...

My point about the "Swamp" wasn't Trump bashing, more a reflection of how gullible people are, thinking anything will change vis-a-vis lots of rich white men pulling the strings in America. How many women has he appointed to high office, I can only think of the education lady.
